The BIRDS and the BEES
WELL, MINUS THE BEES.......
We have our first egg!!!!!!!!!!!!! 
But judging from the state of the nest (?) and their behavior (!) we are guessing them to be juveniles. However, Mama is being good about sitting on the egg, well, most the time...

It has been a while since I have updated the news from the feline sector... I don't know about you, but I enjoy reading about and seeing pictures of other people's critters, no matter what they are or what they are doing. Well, correction, it makes me sad to hear that somebody's kitty or dog is not well... funny how we become "attached" or interested in somebody elses animals hundreds of miles away. Even the Runt (a runt piggy that sleeps on somebody's sofa.. he has outgrown nestling with the kitties!)
The first and most important kitty information is that Snuffy is doing well after his most recent surgery. The growth that was removed from under his tongue was found to be benign. We are so relieved! He is still on Amoxicillin, and still prefers eating baby food to cat food.
At a buck for a 2.5 ounce jar of food, this is an expensive diet as he eats 3 to 4 jars a day! We call him our Platinum cat! 
Snuff has always had trouble breathing, and consequently eating and drinking like a "normal" cat has always been a challenge. After his surgery, putting his head down and trying to trying to lap up food was next to impossible... sooooooooooo... He used to LOVE dry food, but he doesn't even try to eat that anymore. He does expect, however, a jar to be opened after he has had a squirt of amoxicillin or his prednisone or his daily antihistimine.

Rascal is, well, his usual rascally self, running and "messing" with Hadji. He seems to realize that Snuff is off limits for now. So, while Snuff is asleep on his comforter,

and then hides to ambush him,

"See? I am invisible!!!!! HA!" He learned this trick from Snuffy who used to try to hide from him on the back of the sofa in a possum pile.

ANOTHER SATURDAY, ANOTHER PARK
ANOTHER Park, 350 miles away!
This is as high as the huge flag and octopus got. They are on the other side of the field. We escaped just before the sky opened and the rains began! 
Haven't been on here in a while, but it is that time of year! The yard is demanding my time and I am so slow these days - BUT I am on my feet and doing, even if it takes forever. I will put the April garden on after I put on my week-end with Caleb. The 19th was Caleb's 7th Birthday. We have not been over to Smith Mt Lake in several years, it is a long hike from the Eastern Shore - 312 miles to be exact. It was a cloudy, stormy day, but Caleb wanted to go to the kite festival. This is his dad helping him get his Dragon up in the air.
There was not much wind, just a few bursts that got everybody's hopes and kites up only to come crashing down a few minutes later. 
There was not much wind, just a few bursts that got everybody's hopes and kites up only to come crashing down a few minutes later. Caleb had his birthday dinner at a local restaurant where the waitresses sang Happy Birthday to him and brought him a Birthday Mousse! He loved it!
Back at the motel, Caleb got to open his presents. He is a dinosaur enthusiast with an enormous collection. He keeps track of what he has and what has just come on the market and can give you more information... he is like a little dino text book!
Of course, one can't bring presents to just one child, even if it IS his birthday, so there were presents for younger brother Briar.
And, typical of kids, half the fun was playing with the boxes! If only the postal services could move the boxes this fast!

and playing with a "gun" that shoots marshmallows like a blow gun!
Caleb's favorite was the NASA exhibit.

SATURDAY, IN THE PARK
AND, NO, IT WAS NOT THE 4TH OF JULY, for those of you who remember the song. Yesterday, we went across the Chesapeake Bay to Norfolk to see the Azalea gardens. 
I have not been there for about 20 years, Anna has never been there. It was nice and warm, temp got to 82 degrees, and it was rather humid. We were expecting thunderstorms in the afternoon, but we thought we could beat them. And we did not hit any rain until we were back over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and 40 miles from home.

The park is also home to a number of birds that live there year round and are quite accustomed to humans. There are also several pairs of nesting eagles within the park and can be found on their own eagle cam, which I might mention, takes forever to load if you have dial-up, but it worth the wait!
The park has an interesting history. More than 200 African American women and men were commissioned to create a garden for tourists during the Great Depression, in 1938. It was part of the WPA program. A lot of amazing things were done by people back then. I am mostly familiar with the amazing stonework done in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Anyway, these people here were paid 25 cents an hour to plant azaleas - but first they had to clear 30 acres of swamp. The garden is their gift to future generations, and what a beautiful gift it is. I never lost the thought of them toiling in the heat and humidity of Norfolk, 70 years ago, creating this masterpiece practically with their bare hands. Maybe I should include them on my list of Heroes!

EAGLE BABIES UPDATE
Our little guys are growing like weeds now. This was just last Thursday...
Feathers are coming in - color is changing... (Last Friday)
and today, I saw them eating on their own. Mama was watching but letting them try to rip off a bite by themselves.
